Angola: Head of State Covers Agenda With Visits to Undertakings

Luanda — Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, Thursday in Luanda, carried out an on-field work day that took him about seven hours he used to learn about issues concerning the daily lives of around four million inhabitants of the province.

In the Special Economic Zone (ZEE), Luanda's district of Viana, the Angolan head of State learned of the whole process of installation of 70 plants, 11 of which are ready for full operation.

Sectors related to food, clothing, footwear, copper and aluminium processing, pharmaceutical drugs, construction material, electricity and metal-mechanical machines dominate the areas of investment.

The ZEE has two growth points that are the industrial and the commercial one, including technology and conventions, designed to provide three million jobs.

It includes the industrial infrastructure, streets, water and electricity stations, water treatment plants and reservoirs, covering an area of 8,000 hectares.

The site where the new Luanda International Airport is being built covers an area of about 5,000 hectares, about 40 kilometres to the east of the capital city, was also visited by the president.

Once complete, the airport will have a two-fold runways, with the north one having 4,2 kilometres of length, while the south measuring 3,8 kilometres, with 60 metres of width each.

The source underlined the fact that the airport has been designed to receive large planes, in an effort to adjust it to the new technical requirements.

The undertaking will include such airport facilities as passenger terminals for domestic and foreign flights, traffic control tower, V.I.P terminals, hotels and others.

The presidential agenda included viewing the Zango urbanisation project, also in the district of Viana.

José Eduardo dos Santos was briefed on the said urbanisation project that includes the construction of 51 buildings of 15 floors and 112 apartments each.

Also visited was the district of Cazenga, that will also be rearranged. The district is inhabited by about 1.5 million people, over an extension of nearly 38 square kilometres.

Basic sanitation, water and electricity supply and bad condition of roads are some of the findings of the president, having who announced the sppointment soon of a work-team that will coordinate the Cazenga project.

Concerned about the health of the populations, Eduardo dos Santos also visited Angomédica medicine plant.

The repair and modernisation of Angomédica that has been out of operation for about ten years, will reduce the dependence on imports of medicines.
