Aspirant for the leadership of Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) has confessed that the once burgeoning party was in complete disarray ahead its forthcoming delegate conference.
In an interview with Concord Times Dauda Tombo Bangura disclosed that during his snap visit to party members in the east, south and northern regions, it came out clearly that there was disunity among them.
He said members expressed grievances over what they said was ill treatment meted out on them by the current leadership of the party, and that most of the decisions taken on behalf of the party were done without proper consultations.
While the current leader and founding member Charles Margai said he could not comment on the claim the party's organizing secretary in the eastern region David Sama said he was not aware of any ill-treatment by the current leadership of the party.
He argued that there was a structure responsible for the regulation of the party's activities.
Meanwhile, Bangura said there was no turning back. "I have long declared for the party leadership in Makeni but my purpose of visiting the regions was to reaffirm my commitment and to solicit their support. I have decided to contest because we want to effect change in the party."
He added, "I am sure we can only succeed as a political party when there is unity among members."
Bangura said PMDC did not perform well in the past elections especially in the northern province because people in that region were marginalized by the leadership of the party. He said if elected he would ensure that there is cooperation and unity among all members across the country.
"In politics, we recognize the role of each member. Collective responsibility and unity among members should be our central focus. So, I have decided to establish PMDC offices in Port Loko, Kambia and Mattru Jong so that we can have a formidable unit," said Bangura.
He said he has discovered that some people want to manipulate the constitution in the interest of the current leadership.
"I am kindly asking them to go by the dictates of the party constitution," he said.
Bangura further noted that there was need to bring all the forces together so that they could win the elections in 2012.
"We are all one family in the party. I have a good relationship with Charles Francis Margai and I have no bad intention for him. But it is the mandate of the people that I should change the political landscape of PMDC. My consultations with members have been very successful. I am confident that I shall be the leader of the party come April," Bangura concluded.
