Sierra Leone: Transnational supports Miss University 2008

Managing director transnational Sierra Leone Ltd has supported Miss University 2008 with full DSTV equipment, one TV set plus three months free subscription to the second runner up in the contest.

Miss University 2008 is themed: 'Beauty for charity.' The event is slated to take place on November 29 at the Miatta conference hall with a view to supporting pikin bizness in the country.

Managing director of transnational Adonis Aboud said his respect for the show could not be unconnected with the organisational structure of the event over the years.

The pageantry was helping to expose university students in the country after years of war and political instability.

Managing director of Concord Times communications Fidelis Adele said the event was helping to market young and talented university students.

"This year's Miss University 2008 is going to be classical and unique. We started the planning early," he said.

Adele said Sierra Leone's leading mobile company Zain was the major sponsor of the event.

Pikin Bizness supports children by providing economic and educational support to child survivors of the war in the country.

The organisation brings smile and hope to children. For the first three years pikin bizness has saved the lives of lots of children in the country.

In those years, Caritas Makeni, a Catholic NGO; international medical corp and other NGOs help identify some children for pikin bizness.

In collaboration with the World Food Program, the US Embassy in Sierra Leone and UNAMSIL and with sponsorship from DSTV-SL, a helicopter was used to fly around the country during the Christmas holiday, distributing Christmas gifts to children. These gifts include drinks, portable radios, schoolbags, and school supplies.
