Chairman of the Kenema district council and also a strong member of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party Thursday said the formation of the commission of inquiry by the ruling APC was a political time bomb meant to thwack opposition.
Patrick Samu said the setting up of the commission was also to discredit those who have diligently performed to promote the good image of the country.
"There were a lot of strategies employed by the past SLPP government to ensure that criminal issues are properly investigated. The police was upgraded to international standards capable of handling matters," he said and noted that even the Anti Corruption Commission was set up to investigate those alleged to have involved in corrupt practices.
"We are very much concerned as a political party," the district chairman said adding that the APC government has said that it was not going to investigate former cabinet ministers. So who are they investigating now is the big question that is begging for answer," Samu said.
Meanwhile, the minister of information Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo reiterated that the investigating panel was set up to look into the way projects were executed so as to be able to refocus the development agenda.
"We don't want a situation whereby projects were undertaken by contractors who could perform even after they would have collected funds meant for the purpose. We don't want to tolerate impunity at all," he enthused.
