With barely 45 days to go to the polls, the people from the three Northern Regions residing in Accra and Tema metropolitan areas will be meeting the Running Mates of the various political parties in the country at 10am, on October 25th, 2008, at the Teachers Hall, near Ministry of Information in Accra.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide a platform for the Running Mates to explicitly spell out their visions for the Northern part of the country and also to address the developmental challenges of the area.
The meeting, which is under the theme -"Violence-Free Elections for Ghana's Democratic Growth-The Role of Citizens of the three Northern Regions" will also afford people of northern descent to share ideas, interact and map out strategies for peaceful elections.
The Running Mates expected to attend the meeting are from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Mahama, Convention People's Party, Dr. Abu Foster Sakara, People's National Convention (PNC), Miss Petra Maria Amegashie among other dignitaries.
Dr. Hakim Wemah, the Chairman of the Northern Development Forum will Chair the meeting, while Dr. Gyesika Agambila, a Former Deputy Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Reverend Dr. S.B Asore, a Former Member of Council of State, Yakubu Jabuni Yidana, a Director of Research at the Ministry of Interior and Mrs. Susana Mahama, the Coordinator of Assemblies of God Development and Relief Services will serve as Speakers.
Other high profile personalities expected at the encounter are the Sierra Leone High Commissioner in Ghana, the Nigeria High Commissioner as well as other invited Ambassadors in Ghana.
The Members of Parliament (MPs) from the three northern regions, notably Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions will be at the meeting.
In a release, the Executive Director of the Africa Peace Building Club (APBC), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mr. Salam Ramani, who is the organiser and sponsor of the forum, said the objectives of the meeting include -to dialogue with the political leaders as to how to ensure peace before, during and after the elections and to sensitize the youth and the general public on the need to live in peace and harmony with one another.
