Angola: Composers Association Gets New Chairperson

25 October 2008

Luanda — The National Union of Artists and Composers (UNAC) Friday in Luanda elected Arnaldo Calado as the organisation's chairman.

Arnaldo Calado replaces the late musician, Alberto Teta Lando, who held the post until his death in Paris, France, of disease in July this year.

Arnaldo Calado, who is also chairman of the managing board of Angola's Diamond Company "Endiama", was elected during the 3rd UNAC general assembly, held in Luanda.

The event gathered members from the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Zaire, Cabinda, Malanje, Huambo, Kwanza Sul, Huíla and Cunene.

The General Assembly also confirmed the continuation of the other members of the former leadership, with the exception to the presidency, that will hold a two-tear term.

In addition to the election of the new chairman, the associates also analysed and approved the reports on accounts and activity of 2007. They were also briefed on the report on the first half of this year.

UNAC was created on September 9, 1986, after the national meeting held in Luanda.
