Luanda — The National Union of Artists and Composers (UNAC) Friday in Luanda launched the "Alberto Teta Lando" Art award, in homage to the musician and ex-chairman of the organisation who died in July this year of disease.
The award, whose amount has not been disclosed, will be given annually to the most outstanding musicians, theatre players and dancers, in the promotion of the national culture during contests and festivals in the country and abroad.
According to UNAC members, who held a general assembly Friday in Luanda, the award is aimed at encouraging creativity of authors, composers, interpreters, dancers and theatre players that value the national culture.
Teta Lando was also attributed posthumously the title of the organisation's president of honour, due to the work done during two years at the head of the body.
Alberto Teta Lando's musics of referece include "Um assobio meu", "Negra de carapinha dura", "Angolano segue em frente", "Reunir", as well as a CD, comprising "Esperanças Idosas" and Memórias".
Born in 1948 in Mbanza Kongo city, northern Zaire province, Alberto Teta Lando wrote his first music in vernacular Kimbundo language, in 1964, entitled" Kinguibanza".
