The Journaliste Tunisien blog (http://journaliste-tunisien.blogspot.com) has been blocked since yesterday when it posted the Reporters Without Borders 2008 press freedom index (http://journaliste-tunisien.blogspot.com/2008/10/rsf-classement-mondial-de-la-libert-de.html), which was issued the day before. However, the blog can still be accessed at this alternative address: http://journaliste-tunisien-2.blogspot.com/.
The index ranked Tunisia 143rd out of 173 countries. President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali's government is one of the most repressive in the world as regards Internet usage. Video-sharing and social-networking websites such as Dailymotion, YouTube and Facebook are often blocked because of content criticising the president's policies. The emails of some human rights activists are also filtered.
