Angola: CPLP to Create Bank for Financing Development Programmes

Lisbon — A development bank of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) will be created in a short term aimed at financing development programmes and empower the companies and associations within the organisation, said last Saturday in Lisbon, Portugal, the director general of the CPLP, Hélder Lopes.

Speaking in the closing ceremony of the 8th meeting of the CPLP cooperatives organisation, Hélder Lopes said that the bank will have the task of guaranteeing the financial balance within the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community, providing gratifying services and products to customers, granting low interest loans and mainly serve the citizens of the community.

According to the director general of CPLP, the bank of this organisation will be a catalyst instrument and financial support of actions for sustainable development and socio-economic welfare of the community's population.

At the end of the event, the delegates concluded, among other things, the necessity of increasing credit cooperatives, creation of proper funds source, construction of basic education and professional institutions for cooperatives workers, as well as recommended the trading of their products in other markets.

The plenary assembly ratified as honorary members of CPLP the Angolan agriculture minister, Afonso Pedro Canga, the former Brazilian agriculture minister, Roberto Rodrigues, and the chairman of the Portuguese Institute for Cooperatives Sector (Inscoop), Manuel Caveira Campos.

New permanent members of CPLP from Sao Tome and Principe's farmers association "Canablabo", the Angolan Artisans Cooperative (Coopeart), Lar do Patriota housing project and the Angolan coffee producers Association were also admitted.
