Angola, Mozambique Parties Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

Luanda — Delegations of Angola and Mozambique ruling parties, MPLA and Frelimo, respectively, Friday in Luanda, discussed issues related to the strengthening of cooperation and friendship of over 40 years between them.

Leading the delegations were MPLA secretary general, Julião Mateus Paulo "Dino Matrosse", and the secretary of Frelimo Central Committee for Mobilisation and Propaganda, Edson Macuácua, who is in Angola since Thursday for a four-day visit.

Speaking to the press, at the end of the meeting, held at MPLA's national headquarters, in Luanda, Edson Macuácua confirmed that the mission was aimed at deepening the "excellent historic cooperation and friendship ties existing between MPLA and Frelimo".

To this purpose, he said, the parties discussed the functioning of their respective organisations, adding he was briefed on the work being done by MPLA related to the implementation of its programme.

Speaking on behalf of his party, he congratulated MPLA, on the landslide victory in the legislative elections held on September 5, "which reflects the reputation, prestige, credibility and popularity the Angolan ruling party enjoys within the population".

Comprising the assistant director of Frelimo Study and Analysis Office, Gabriel Motise, the Mozambican delegation's agenda includes a meeting with Angolan deputy minister of Social Communication, Manuel Miguel de Carvalho "Wadijimbi".

The ties of cooperation and friendship between MPLA and Frelimo dates back To the 1960s, during the national liberation struggle against the domination of the Portuguese colonial rule.

The delegation will end its visit on Monday.
