Luanda — The coordinator of the National Commission on Civil Protection (CNPC), Eugénio Laborinho, met Friday in Luanda with members of various sectors of the civil society, to outline strategies to face the damages caused by the rains in the provinces.
He said on the occasion that the meeting was to discuss two points only. That is the situation of the present rainy season and the measures to be adopted to prevent major evils that might occur.
The provinces most affected by the rains are Kwanza Norte, Moxico, Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Uíge, Zaire, Malanje and Bengo.
Eugénio Laborinho said as well that though the present situation is of responsibility of the provincial commissions on civil protection, the CNPC has decided to intensify awareness, prevention and alert campaigns with the local governments, in order for the populations to quit risky zones, thus avoiding disaster, death and destruction.
He highlighted the importance of the various sectors of the society in contributing to the reserves for future situations.
CNPC statistics say that in the third quarter of this year, the rains in northern Uige province destroyed 265 residences, two schools and a church, and 1,715 people were left homeless.
