Lisbon — Angolan minister of Culture, Afonso Pedro Canga, might be elected Friday in Lisbon, Portugal, as a honorary member of the Organisation of Cooperatives of the Portuguese Speaking Community (Ocplp), in recognition of the assistance paid to the association.
The name of Pedro Canga was proposed by Ocplp International Council, during a meeting held Tuesday in Lisbon, where another two honorary members were proposed, Angop learned from the organisation.
The Ocplp, according to its chairman, Manuel Cananveira Campos, one of the three other people proposed as honorary members, spoke of the need for high profile people to be included in the organisation.
He said that the nominations will be submitted to the Plenary Assembly of the VIII CPLP Cooperatives Meeting opening Friday.
Manuel Canaveira Campos stated that upon an Ocplp proposal, Portugal will get the vote to remain at the head of the organisation's Standing Secretariat, through its National Confederation of Cooperatives of Agriculture and of Credit (Confragri), in replacement of the Antonio Sérgio Cooperative Institute (Inscoop).
The Ocplp was established in 1997 and comprises Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Portugal and East Timor.
