Pretoria — Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma on behalf of the country and the Government has sent condolences to the family of a South African who was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday.
"Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this trying time," the minister said in a statement.
One of the two foreigners killed in a shoot-out in Kabul, Afghanistan was a South African citizen, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday.
"The South African Government wishes to confirm that one of the two foreigners who were killed in a shoot-out in Kabul, Afghanistan on Saturday was a South African citizen who worked for DHL International," the department said in a statement.
According to media reports, two foreigners working for DHL, an international shipping company were fatally shot on Saturday in Afghanistan's capital.
The two employees, which were shot in their SUV, were apparently pulling into their office.
According to the department, the next of kin of the deceased has been informed and they will continue to render the necessary consular assistance to the family.
