Reptiles and grown weeds have taken over the constructed public conveniences in Kiyawa local government area of Jigawa state, while dozens of people daily squat by the road side urinating in total disobedience to Governor Sule Lamido's admonition.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that it was exactly four months after the state government directed all the 27 local government areas in the state to within shortest period of time to hasten and build public conveniences in various locations across their councils especially in the rural communities to enhanced hygienic condition among the populace but still some councils have not comply with the earlier directive.

A visit to Kiyawa local government revealed that most of the public connivances built by the council are neither of substandard revealed as such they were nick named as "public inconveniences" because they were under lock and key with grown weeds invaded the environment making them unusable to the communities.

The council chairman, Alhaji Dahiru Madaki Katuka who lead a team of journalists on a working visit on development projects, has nothing to show on the ground but rehabilitated structures and old projects executed by the former sole administration of the council, at Balagu village it was a market day despite the existence of the so called public conveniences in the area people were seeing excreting in public.

Alhaji Dahiru Katuka explained that connection of water to the public conveniences was delaying them from functioning, but however one of the community member at Balagu, Mallam Sardo Kallamu told Sunday Vanguard that the public convenience has for long been constructed but it was not put to use as such it has made them to go to the bush and ease and deficate the place when ever they come to Balagu on market day, calling on the council to come and commission the place so that they will stop going to the bush.

Sunday Vanguard reports that at the time most of the councils in the state have put the public conveniences into use, Kiyawa local government had not even completed one as most of them are rehabilitated structures, the council was equally left behind in the area of development with most of the projects being white elephant while others were executed by the previous government.

The only projects currently going on are the construction of the three houses and the rehabilitation of secretariat complex which is on-going on across the 27LGAs of the state.
