Luanda — A delegation of Angolan Members of Parliament left Monday for Johannesburg, South Africa, to attend a plenary meeting of Pan African Parliament (PAP), started on October 13.
Leading the Angolan entourage to the event, set to end on 07 November, is the Pan African Parliament vice-speaker, França Van-Dúnem.
The MP told Angop, shortly before his departure, that the meeting will conduct assessment of the activities developed by this organ of the African Union (AU) and prepare the future meetings until the final mandate, set for March 2009.
According to him, the Parliament, so far restricted to the consultative and advising functions, will have, as from 2009, legislative competences.
Created in March 2004, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the organ has 265 members, elected by legislatures of the 53 member States.
The Pan African Parliament headquarters is based in Mid-rand, South Africa.
Also comprising the delegation are deputies Ernesto Mulato, of Unita, Gustavo da Conceição and Isabel Peliganga, of ruling MPLA party.
