Kampala — AFTER a 10-day training stint with renowned South African coach Norman Mbiko, the Rugby Cranes depart for the IRB Sevens World Cup qualifier in Tunisia with their confidence and technique heightened.
The team leaves for Tunis today for the two-day qualifier that gets underway on Friday.
Coaching director David Dobela observed that the former Springboks 7s coach Mbiko, brought in to 'polish' the squad, has had great impact on the team. Uganda telecom fully paid for Mbiko's expert services.
"There are some aspects that Norman has changed in defence and attack. The team has grasped about 85% of it in this short time," said Dobela.
"The team's confidence and skill have improved. The boys have the hunger and self-belief. We have a good chance of qualifying for the World Cup."
The top three of 14 teams will qualify for the World Cup in Dubai in March, 2009.
Coach John Musoke, Mbiko and Dobela travel as technical staff.
