Kampala — The Commercial Court has summoned businessman Amos Nzeyi over a case filed against him by a Rwanda-based professor in a bid to recover Shs185 million as balance payment for land.
Prof. Herbert Nzanzumuhire, a lecturer at the National University of Rwanda says he sold 26 acres of land at Temangalo to Mr Nzeyi at Shs355 million, but was paid only Shs170 million. "You are hereby required to file your defence within 15 days from the date you receive a copy of the summons, failure to do so, the plaintiff may proceed with the matter and judgment may be entered in your absence," read part of Mr Haduli's summons.
Prof. Nzanzumuhire claims he sold the land to Mr Nzeyi in June 2008. The two agreed that Mr Nzeyi would effect the payment by transferring money from his Tropical Africa Bank account to Prof. Nzanzumuhire's bank account at DFCU. Prof. Nzanzumuhire claims he was given a bounced cheque.
He also contends that the acts of Mr Nzeyi have caused him inconvenience and financial loss for which the latter should be held liable at all cost.
