Nigeria: Suswam Flags-Off Construction of N4.4 Billion Katsina-Ala, Otobi Water Works

BENUE State Governor Mr. Gabriel Suswam has flagged off construction work on the N4.4billion Katsina-Ala and Otobi water works with charge on the beneficiaries of the water schemes to keep faith with his administration in its quest to better the lot of the people.

Speaking in Katsina-Ala and Otukpo LGs Mr. Suswam explained that his administration ventured into the expansion of the previous water works which had an installed capacity of 5,000 cubic liters given the inability of the facility to adequately cater for the water needs of the people adding that the new works with an estimated capacity for 15,000 cubic liters of water per day will sufficiently arrest the incidents of water shortages in the towns.

He regretted that since the creation of the state the people have had to live with the pains of not having portable water to drink despite being surrounded by rivers as huge as Rivers Benue and Katsina-Ala stressing that as a responsible government and in line with the promises made to the people during his electioneering campaigns his administration will continue to provide the basic needs of the people within available resources.

Mr. Suswam took time to explain to the people why he has to bring in expatriates to handle sensitive projects in the state as against giving it to the state indigenes as being propagated by his critics.

"These projects are so sensitive and dear to the people and government of Benue State and we are not ready to toy with it by giving it to individuals and persons who will in turn subcontract it to another firm and at the end it will be abandoned all because we want to patronize politicians".

"That is the reason why we have given it to competent and tested hands who will also deliver a quality job and in record time without hindrances; but be rest assured that when it comes to less technical jobs like renovation of schools and the like we will surely patronize and reach out to our people", Suswam explained.
