Namibia: Jacobs Wants Reasons

THE outgoing Karas Chief Regional Officer, Salmaan Jacobs, is demanding reasons from the Regional Council why his five-year contract has not been renewed.

Jacobs's contract expires on Friday.

In letter dated October 20, Metcalfe Legal Practitioners requested the council on behalf of Jacobs to provide reasons why it had decided not to extend his term of office.

The lawyers also want the council to respond to a letter Jacobs wrote requesting that his term of office be extended.

Furthermore, the lawyers called for the speedy finalisation of documents relating to a pension payout upon the expiry of Jacobs's contract.

The council has been given until Friday to respond on the lawyers' letter.

Karas Governor Dawid Boois confirmed receipt of the letter but declined to comment.

The Namibian has reliable information that the council resolved at its meeting on Monday to seek legal advice on the lawyers' letter.

The council on Tuesday decided to appoint its Director of Administration, Saul Kahuika, as acting Chief Regional Officer.

Friday will also be the last day in office for the Hardap Chief Regional Officer, James Sankwasa.

The Hardap Regional Council recently notified Sankwasa that his term of office would not be renewed when it expires on Friday.
