Kampala — A KAMPALA businessman has sued Amos Nzeyi over failure to pay him sh185m, the balance for land sold to him at Temangalo in Wakiso district.
Herbert Nsanzumuhire filed the case through Oketcha, Baranyanga and Company Advocates, seeking to recover damages, interests and costs.
Nzeyi, the chief executive officer of Pepsi Cola, a beverage company, is also implicated in the controversial sale of land in Temangalo to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
The court has ordered Nzeyi to file a defence within 15 days of receiving the notice.
"You are hereby required to file a defence within 15 days from the date of service of the summons against you. Should you fail to file one within the prescribed period, the plaintiff may proceed with the suit and judgement may be given in your absence," the summons said.
Nsanzumuhire said he sold 26 acres of land in June to Nzeyi at sh355m.
He added that Nzeyi only paid him sh170m, leaving a balance of sh185m.
He explained that Nzeyi had failed, refused or ignored to pay the remaining amount despite constant reminders by his (Nsanzumuhire) lawyers.
Parliament is currently probing the NSSF over the purchase of land from Nzeyi and a company linked to security minister Amama Mbabazi at what the House considers an exorbitant price of sh11b.
