Luanda — The cooperation between Angola and Russia was boosted since the last visit paid by the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, to that European country in 2006, affirmed this Wednesday the Russian ambassador accredited to the country, Serguey Nenáchev.
At the end of an audience with the speaker of the National Assembly (parliament), Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, the Russian diplomat said that the Statesman's visit "contributed and was very positive to the development of the bilateral relations".
According to Serguey Nenáchev, in the plan of implementing accords signed during the visit, a lot was done, mainly in the Home Affairs Ministries of both countries.
The diplomat mentioned that, apart from the ongoing staff training programme, experiences were shared between the Russian Home Affairs Ministry and the Federal Service of Combat to Narcotrafficking and the corresponding Angolan delegations.
In the humanitarian sector, he said, a staff training programme is also being carried out, whilst the first steps are being given for cooperation in the tourism field.
To the diplomat, for this purpose, a delegation of the Angolan Tourism Ministry attended a fair of the sector in Moscow, in March 2008, with view to reinforce the cooperation.
Serguey Nenáchev also said that authorities of both countries are in the final phase of elaborating the programme of economic, trade and technical-scientific cooperation for a period of five years.
However, the diplomat stated that this programme could be amended in accordance to the Angolan ruling MPLA party's programme for the 2009-2012 period presented during the campaign for the September 05 legislative elections.
The Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, visited Russia between late October and early November 2006, responding to an invitation by Vladimir Putin, his former counterpart.
In the framework of this trip, the two governments signed a series of agreements meant to boost cooperation in various fields, with highlight to the technical-military sector and between the Home Affairs Ministries of the two countries.
In the Justice dominion, the parties signed treaties on the extradition of people sentenced to various terms, and legal assistance in penal issues, already ratified by the National Assembly.
