Luanda — The Angolan carnival group União Mundo da Ilha from Luanda's Ingombota District will get a tribute from the Carnival Central Commission during the 2009 parade taking place in February, next year.
The Culture municipal section head, Silva e Costa, said to ANGOP that the tribute is due to the fact that the group is one of the country's oldest and for their contribution in preserving national cultural heritage, especially of the most popular feast of the country, the Carnival.
Winner of the last Carnival edition, the group was founded in 1968 and has 12 titles, performs using semba dance style with songs sung in the vernacular language Kimbundu.
More than two thousand people, mainly residents from Ilha do Cabo ward, among fishermen, hawkers and fishermen are part of the group.
