Little progress has been made in reducing extreme poverty in sub-Saharan Africa, says Health Minister Richard Kamwi.
This, he says, is contrary to the fact that the Millennium Development Goal calling for halving the number of people in the developing world living on less than $1 a day by 2015 remains within reach for the world as a whole.
Kamwi made these remarks in a statement issued to announce the first African Union conference of ministers in charge of social development, which started in Windhoek on Monday.
The gathering is being held under the theme 'Towards A Sustainable Social Development Agenda for Africa' and falls within the framework of various instruments adopted by the African Union and more specifically the African Common Position on Human and Social Development in Africa.
