Nigeria: Three Die, Seven Injured in Road Accident

Three persons died while seven others sustained injuries on Tuesday morning in a fatal motor accident along the Abuja -Lokoja highway.The accident which occurred around 3.am at Gadabiyu village, about 9 kilometres from Abaji town, involved a Toyota commuter Hiace bus with registration number KE 807 AAA with 18 passengers on board and a Man diesel truck, with registration number XC 97NNE, loaded with cement.

Confirming the accident, the operational head of the Abaji Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Baba A. Bagudu, said the accident was caused by dangerous overtaking by the bus driver.

He said the bus driver who was conveying passengers from Abuja to Lagos, was on top speed and overtook dangerously and cra-shed into a broken down truck loaded with cement by the side of the road, killing three persons on the spot.

He said on receiv-ing information about the accident, he detailed a rescue team to the scene and evacuated the three corpse to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital morgue, while the seven injured were rushed to Kwali General Hospital for treatment.

When City News visited the Kwali hospital, a nurse said some of the victims with minor injuries have been discharged, while two others with serious injuries are receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the hospital
