Liberia: Email Scam Probe Team Returns From Abroad

30 October 2008

Dr. D Elwood Dunn, Chairman of the Independent Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the alleged improprieties in reference to the e-mail exchanges that appear on Front Page Africa, has returned home from a trip to the US.

Briefing the Committee, Dr. Dunn said consultations were held with individuals and agencies expected to be involved in the scientific and legal aspects of the investigation. The Investigating team includes former federal investigators and prosecutors, with offices in eight United States and European cities.

The team also specializes in providing litigation, due-diligence, and internal investigative services to Multinational Corporation. The specialists come from law firms, investments banks, financial institutions, international organizations and leading non-profit organizations. Two experts from the team are expected in the country shortly.

Meanwhile, the Committee has also hired the services of a prominent Liberian Counselor at-law Jallah A. Barbu, who is currently completing his doctorate in Constitutional law at the Indiana University School of Law in the United States.

The alleged e-mail scam surrounds former Presidential Affairs Minister Willis Knuckles and the Liberia Ship and Corporate Registry(LISCR) relative to an alleged planned deal to award LISCR the contract to continuously manage Liberia's Maritime Program.
