Ghana: Last Night's Presidential Debate - NPP, NDC Supporters Claim Victory

Four Presidential candidates -Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Professor John Evans Atta Mills, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Mahama, Peoples National Convention (PNC) and Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Convention People's Party (CPP), last night sent their numerous supporters into wild jubilations after displaying intelligence in answering the questions that were put to them at the much anticipated Presidential debate.

Unlike the previous debates, nobody was allowed to applaud any of the candidates. As announced earlier, only 15 supporters from each of the parties were allowed into the hall together with accredited journalists. Security was also very tight at the venue.

Our correspondents who went to town to ascertain the mood of the supporters, who were watching the programme live on Television, reported that each time a candidate answered a question, his supporters cheered and applauded him.

At some places where people had gathered to watch the debate, there were heated debate as to whether a candidate answered a question correctly or not.

As usual the NPP and NDC supporters claimed victory, with each saying their candidate performed better than the other.

At the venue of the debate, Nana Addo was the first candidate to answer a question posed to him by the Moderators, followed by other candidates.

They all appeared to have answered the first and subsequent questions with glee. Chronicle would bring full details of the debate in tomorrow's edition.
