Massawa — In a live interview he conducted with Aljazeera Television in Massawa today, Mr. Ali Abdu pointed out that as the Eritrean-Ethiopian border issue has reached legal conclusion, the sole remaining issue is Ethiopia's illegal occupation of sovereign Eritrean territories.
Indicating that Ethiopia's occupation of sovereign Eritrean territories is in violation of all international laws, he underlined that as such a move has dangerous consequences; the UN is duty bound to take punitive action against Ethiopia and see to it that it withdraws its forces from the occupied sovereign Eritrean territories.
Regarding the dissemination of so-called Eritrean-Djiboutian border conflict, Mr. Ali emphasized that it should be viewed within the context of the interference of external forces in the Horn of Africa. "This issue is Washington's deliberate invention and fabrication," he underscored. As such, Mr. Ali pointed out that this act is a continuation of the US Administration's erroneous and bankrupt policies in the Horn region.
Stating that Djibouti has become a tool in this issue, he called on Djiboutian brothers to be well aware of such a trap. In this connection, Mr. Ali Abdu elaborated that Eritrea is exercising self-control and patience without being disturbed by futile rumors of this type. He further stressed the need for the people of the Horn of Africa to be free from external interference so as to avoid repeated conflicts and provocations.
On the Somali issue, Mr. Ali noted that the people of Somalia said No! to the 16-year long lawlessness and civil war, and thereby managed to ensure peace and stability in 2006 through self-initiated movement. Despite this, however, certain big powers in pursuit of vested interests invaded Somalia through their servant in the region, i.e. the Ethiopian regime, thus aggravating the situation, he emphasized.
Indicating that the prevailing crisis in Somalia following the Ethiopian invasion is one of the biggest crises in the 21st century as confirmed by UN reports, Mr. Ali Abdu stated that the current so-called meeting in Nairobi is but moribund that constitutes an insult to the dignity of the Somali people and exposes Somali sovereignty to still worse danger, as well as a conspiracy that foments more division among the people of that country. He went on to say that the sole solution to the Somali issue is the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the invading Ethiopian forces, besides ensuring Somalia's independence and sovereignty. If there exists a party that wishes to extend support to the Somali people, it should only be that of enabling the Somalis resolve their issue themselves, Mr. Ali Abdu underscored.
