Tanzania: PM to Grace Major Forum for Investors

30 October 2008

Arusha — Arusha municipality will host an investors' forum for local and foreign investors towards mid-December, Regional Commissioner Isidory Shirima had affirmed.

Addressing members of the forum organizing committee here on Wednesday, he said Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda  is expected to grace the opening ceremony for the two-day forum slated for December 11 and 12.

He said the forum will give Arusha and neighbouring regions a chance to show their investment opportunities to local and international investors.

"Many people regard Arusha as s hub for tourism investment potential alone. The forum will shed some light on other investment potential that Arusha offers," the RC noted.

He said Arusha also offers huge potentials in mining and agriculture, especially in horticulture and several other trade and food crops.

The forum will also provide a platform for strengthening public-private partnership in promoting investments to boost the region's economy, he elaborated.

The forum will be preceded by an exhibition of various trade items manufactured in Arusha and the neighbouring Kilimanjaro and Manyara regions.

Extensive improvements had been registered in tourism, the road network, mining, industries and financial services, making the municipality more attractive to investors, he said.

Dunstan Mrutu, executive secretary for the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC), had earlier said forum participants will also get a chance to understand the country's investment policies.

They will be free to air their views on how the government can make the policies investor-friendly , he further noted. "The government has a responsibility of preparing policies that are investor-friendly but for a long time, businesspeople have been complaining about some of the policies.

Participants will therefore have time to propose ways to improve the policies for the general good of the nation," he added.
