Mahulu primary school in Makete is now electrified following a Sh10 million donation by the Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA).
The bank recently embarked on the school electrification project to aid the school, where a half of its pupils are orphans.
A statement by the bank management in Dar es Salaam said yesterday that the project took one year after the bank made the donation last year.
Julius Mcharo, a director of the bank, said the bank decided to donate towards the electricity project to improve the education environment at the school.
The bank also aimed at supplying affordable electricity to villagers, which could prompt villagers to venture into the establishment of small industries, the director noted.
"Bringing electricity to this school will not only help pupils who are schooling here but also villagers who have no electricity in their homes," Mcharo said.
The wider goal of the project is to assist the villagers in economic undertakings, helping them to shun involvements likely to spread HIV/Aids, he stated.
Statistics indicate that Makete is among areas most affected by HIV/AIDS, resulting in over half of pupils in the school being orphans, he said.
Makete District Commissioner Lefy Gembe commended the bank for initiating the project saying that it will boost economic and social development of the area.
