Angola: Chinese Firm Takes Over Movicel Operational Management

Luanda — The Chinese company (ZTE), assumed officially on Thursday the management of the Angolan mobile-phone operator (Movicel), in the ambit of the strategic partnership of the government.

According to a communiqué sent to Angop on Thursday, the transference of the operational management results from agreement signed last month between Movicel and ZTE International Angola.

Prior to ZTE, the operational management of the State-owned firm was under Communico, an Israeli firm belonging to group LR.

The source adds that the change of company for Movicel management implies the implementation of partial privatization process of mobile-phone operator set at 80 percent, under the Joint Executive Decree nº 58/08, of 28 April.

With its signal implemented throughout the country, Movicel reached recently the figure of 2 million customers.
