Luanda — The National Oncology Centre (CNO) will soon have a laboratory for analysis, diagnoses and other services, aimed at treating oncological diseases, mainly breast and prostate cancers.
This information was released to ANGOP last Thursday by the director of that institution, Fernando Miguel, on the fringes of the workshop under the theme "breast cancer", promoted
by the Angola Press Agency "ANGOP" in Luanda, in the ambit of its 33rd anniversary, marked on October 30.
The physician said that the installation of this laboratory will be possible thanks to an agreement signed between CNO and a Brazilian university which is willing to send technicians
to Angola, in the framework of the understanding between both parts.
Fernando Miguel also said that the laboratory, whose equipment are already being set up, will facilitate an effective and quality work.
Regarding the capacity and form of functioning, the expert in oncology said that conditions are being created countrywide for people to have access to this service, since in various hospitals and medical centres there are trained and specialised technicians in this field.
According to the director, in 2007 CNO assisted more than 200 people, mostly women suffering from breast cancer and men with prostate cancer, figures which tend to rise on account of ignoring or not knowing the infection causes, as well as ways of prevention.
The National Oncology Centre is a health unit of reference in Angola and it performs external analysis, consultations, diagnoses, treatment, as well as promotes lectures, seminars, researches, among others.
The workshop was attended by the director general of ANGOP, Manuel da Conceiço, the deputy director general for information, Luísa Damião, heads of department, employees and guests.
