Ghana: Ghanaians Told to Love And Protect One Another

Opong Baah

31 October 2008

Kumasi — Apostle Elijah Opoku Ware, Head of the Ashanti Branch of the Church of Christ (Spiritual Movement), has called on Ghanaians to love one another and be their brother's keeper no matter one's tribe or religious denomination.

"As people created in the image of God, we must clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, forgiving whatever grievances we may have against one another as the Lord forgives us", he said.

He said since love binds all virtues together in unity under no circumstance should the people allow themselves to be divided.

Apostle Opoku Ware made the remarks while presenting assorted food items worth GH¢900.00 and GH¢100.00 cash to the inmates of Kumasi Children's Home.

The visit to the orphanage forms part of the activities marking the Church's 50th Anniversary Celebration.

The Ashanti Regional Head said the donation was in response to the Biblical injunction on Christians to assist orphans, widows, the sick, the poor and other vulnerable groups in the society.

Additionally, he said it was in consonance with the church's objective of being socially responsible to the needs of the communities in which it operates.

He made it clear that the Church would at regular intervals donate its widow's mite to the inmates to make their stay at the Home more comfortable.

Apostle Opoku Ware passionately appealed to all Ghanaians to assist the Government in their own little ways to ensure that those at the Home - through no fault of theirs - have a fulfilling life.

Receiving the items Mad. Theresa Tengey, Principal Childcare Officer of the Home, commended the Church for its timely assistance and appealed to other religious organizations to emulate its shining example.
