Sierra Leone: Zain Mobile Phone Money Transfer Soon

Freetown — Zain mobile phone network African region Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chris Gabriel said his company would soon introduce the mobile money transfer in the country.

Gabriel made this statement while addressing press officials during his three day visit to the country.

He said the introduction of the mobile money transfer in Sierra Leone is one of the company's aims in bringing effective programmes to the country.

"We have invested over US $120 million in Sierra Leone to show that we are committed and would continue to invest to Sierra Leone. We are set to bring effective programmes in the country," Gabriel said.

He noted that the company is also focused on rural communication in order to help people in the rural areas have access to communication.

He said; "Our re-branding from Celtel to Zain came about with Celtel been a success story in Africa and because we want to take the African success story to the world."

"The re-branding was part of our global aspiration, as Zain is a global brand and by 2011 we aim at reaching the top 10 mobile phone network in the world."

During his three day visit, the CEO and team first inspected one of the company's cell sites in Port Loko before meeting the minister of information and communication, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo where he expressed Zain's willingness to continue investing in the country.

Zain team also visited the commissioner of NATCOM where a close door meeting was held.
