Freetown — Having fellow Sierra Leoneans cheating and threatening the lives of foreigners presents a bad image of our beloved Sierra Leone to the entire world. This is because to a large extent such deceits violate the rights of unsuspecting foreigners who would want to feel protected in another man's land.

In recent times, it came to the knowledge of the press that some unscrupulous people in the country were in the habit of duping, assaulting and threatening the lives of foreign nationals on the grounds that nothing would come out of it. They would bluff around that this is their soil and that no change would befall them. Isn't that serious?

Examples of such cases in which foreigners have been economically abused include the case between a Canadian national Keith Maginley and the wife of cooperate manager at the National Revenue Authority Mrs. Theresa Weya Kargbo.

According to the statement of offence the accused was said to have entered the house of the foreigner, on a date unknown between February 1 - 25, 2008 at 2A Johnson Lane Aberdeen in Freetown, and stole therein properties worth Le 42, 525, 000. These were said to be properties of the complainant. The accused was charged with house breaking and larceny, contrary to Sec. 26 (1) of the larceny act of 1916.

Also, Alhaji Bah and three other accused persons have been charged with burglary and larceny, conspiracy and receiving. They were alleged to have broken and entered the house of Adams Kama Kousakis a Greek national on Tuesday September 9, 2008 at 29E Bai Bureh Road, Calaba Town.

Associating lawyer Musa Pious Hermor Sesay objected to any bail stating that the accused persons were likely to interfere with the prosecution witnesses. He also noted that the government should act very fast in having those accused persons dealt with severely according to law.

After their first appearance in court all four accused were denied bail and the forth accused was later granted bail through an application filed from high court by lawyer Osho Williams.

However, as investigations continue and as the accused persons keep appearing in court, the Greek national had expressed disappointment in the people of Sierra Leone and also noted that he had brought another Greek investor called Nicholas some few days before the incident took place.

According to him the said Mr. Nicholas immediately left for fear that he could be duped like his friend had.
