Ghana: Kwame/ Komi Adzagba Voters' ID?

Kofi Owusu Aduonum

31 October 2008

The protracted legal tussle involving RTU's Komi/ Kwame Adzagba and Zaytuna United FC has taken another twist. This time, his alleged fictitious documentation has raised eye brows at the Electoral Commission, following the addition of Abdul Aziz to his name, on his Voter's ID card acquired in 2004.

The Chronicle Sports investigations has revealed that the Electoral Commission in their quest to weed out all those possessing illegal voter's ID cards was alarmed and questioned the player's eligibility as citizen of this land to posses a Ghana Voters ID card.

Another anomaly that has stirred the Electoral Commission was the arrangement of his name on his Voters ID Card, with the number 19085115GJ, and name -Adzagba Kwame Abdul Aziz.

The investigations further revealed that the player's name should have appeared as Kwame Adzagba and not the other way round, that is, his surname preceding his first name, an anomaly in contravention with the Commissions' rules.

Consequently, Legal Ink, a law firm representing Zaytuna, headed by Counsel Daniyal Abdul-Karim has written to the Attorney General to prosecute the player, following his irreconcilable differences in his documents.

After the Ghana Football Association's ruling on the protest case against Zaytuna, the latter decided to pursue the matter in the law courts for justice.

Zaytuna's decision to drag the FA to court resulted in the FA writing to Zaytuna for violation of the statutes of the FA and that of FIFA in respect of Article 17.1.11.1 and 17.1.11.5 of the FA statutes and Article 64 of the FIFA statutes. In a letter signed by the FA's scribe, Mr. Kofi Nsiah to Zaytuna; it read " You therefore forthwith cease to be a member of the Association."

Zaytuna in response to the FA's letter has stated a request for a meeting with the FA at the latter's office today, to discuss their proposals on the resolution of the impasses within the framework of the GFA statues, to pave the way for the revival of the sporting relationship between the GFA and Zaytuna.

The player at the centre of controversy, Adzagba, was granted bail by the Police in Tamale early this week.

The Police has therefore requested former Ashantigold CEO, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo, Stephen Adevu of GHALCA and Mr. Kofi Aggrey, former PRO of the Ministry of Sports has been asked by the Police to assist in the investigations of the player's alleged fraudulent documentations.
