Kasese — OVER 30 houses in Kidodo village, Kasese town were destroyed during a heavy down-pour on Wednesday.
The district police commander, Felix Ebong, confirmed the incident saying most of the houses that collapsed were not built with recommended materials.
"Most of the houses in that area do not have approved plans and were built with mud. They could not stand against such a storm," Ebong said.
He said the injured people were rushed to clinics in Kasese town but no death was recorded.
Ebong called upon the urban council and district officials to control illegal and substandard structures in the area for the safety of the people.
Kidodo is a mushrooming slum housing locals who were displaced during the 1996 civil war in Kasese. Efforts by Kasese town council authorities to evict the illegal squatters have been fruitless as the residents have fought the move.
