Uganda: Fantastic - Cranes Demolish Senegal And Tunisia

Kampala — Allan Musoke and Jonathan Bishop Onen turned in a star performance as the rugby Cranes whipped Senegal and Tunisia to stay on course for a semi-final slot in the IRB sevens World Cup qualifier in Tunisia yesterday.

Musoke, Robert Seguya, Richard Lumu, Mathias Ochwo and Michael Wokorach were on the mark as Uganda demolished Senegal 43-0 in their opening game in Tunis.

Later on, Uganda defied a partisan crowd to tame Tunisia 'B' 26-17. Onen, scored two tries while Musoke and Lumu added one each as the Ugandans prevailed over Tunisia.

The Tunisians suffered another upset as Zimbabwe humiliated Tunisia 'A' 31-0 in the most thrilling game of the day.

The Ugandans, who had a strong tactical bench comprising of South African Norman Mbiko and David Dobela and Ugandan John Musoke had great impact on the team.

Uganda plays Namibia today. The semi-finals and final will be played today. The top three teams qualify for the World Cup in Dubai in March next year.

* A tough draw handed to Impis in the Hima Makerere Rugby 10s tournament next week left coach Herbert Wafula's optimism intact.

Hima Impis, the host of the tournament, is in a difficult Pool C with G4S Pirates, KCB and Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono.

"We didn't expect an easy pool. I know we will all beat UCU and then sort ourselves out. It's going to be tough but we hope to rise to the occasion. I wish we play KCB first. I want us to play KCB before they watch us," Wafula stated.

Wafula said that his squad has been training for the last three weeks. "It's our tournament we need it more than any other team in East Africa. I don't have superstars in my team. Our strength is in the team approach to the game. It's like having a table with 10 equal legs," Wafula said.
