Nairobi — Athletics Kenya has warned runners to be wary of bogus sponsors who are out to lure them with fake contracts.

Speaking at Nyahururu Stadium on Friday, the newly elected AK Nyandarua sub-branch secretary, Lawrence Miano, noted that there has been a rise in complaints in the country, where athletes have been denied their money due to fake contracts.

Miano urged upcoming runners to be careful when signing sponsors' contracts.

He urged them to seek advice from athletics officials or from coaches.

"Before you sign any paper with anyone, read through it, and if you can not understand everything, come to our offices or seek your established running friends for advise," he said.

The athletes included Administration Police, clubs and individuals who begun training in readiness of the 37th World Cross Country Championships to be held next year in Jordan.
