The police recently beamed its searchlight on some black spots along the major highways linking the state following complaints of banditry along the highways by residents and commuters and succeeded in foiling the attempted robbery operation at Rijana Village very early yesterday according to the state's commissioner of police, Mr Tambari Muhammad.
Muhammad told newsmen at the state police headquarters yesterday that fighting ensued when a team of the Kaduna State security outfit, Operation Yaki engaged a team of armed robbers in a gun battle at Rijana, leading to the death of one of the bandits while the others escaped with bullet wounds.
"The breakthrough was recorded Wednesday morning when a team of Operation Yaki covering the axis engaged four armed bandits in a fierce gun battle. One of the bandits dressed in a black outfit was gunned down in the encounter. Three other members of the gang escaped presumably with gunshots wounds."
