Kampala — IT is being whispered in the Democratic Party that musician Bobi Wine could get the party's backing for the Kampala Central seat in 2011.
In what is clearly a bid to oust the incumbent, Erias Lukwago, it is said the musician has secured the backing of Kampala Mayor Nasser Sebaggala, popularly known as Seya. B
obi Wine is reportedly quietly doing some work for the party.
Though a member of DP, Sebaggala was elected mayor as an independent candidate after he was elbowed off the party ticket through internal machinations.
He is now nursing the ambition to run as the DP presidential candidate, but his candidature is not 'appetising', according to party insiders. This seems to have instigated Seya to groom young men to run against those he sees as opposed to him.
As far as the city is concerned, Seya and Lukwago have poor working relations. And Seya has reportedly gone ahead plotting to topple Lukwago. He is expected to offer tutorials to Bobi Wine on how to be a politician. Bobi Wine can also bank on the mayor for lessons in politics and history of Uganda.
To ensure his candidature is free of any encumbrances, Bobi Wine's academic papers have been checked and found genuine. He is probably the only musician in the country with a degree and postgraduate certificate, above the A'Level requirement for one to be an MP.
It is said when election time comes, he plans to use his publicity tag, 'President of The Ghetto', to woo slum-dwellers and the poor, who are the majority voters in the city.
