Uganda: Beti Kamya Backs Down on FDC

1 November 2008

Kampala — RUBAGA North MP Beti Kamya has reportedly called off her planned savage attack on the Forum for Democratic Change leadership.

Kamya has been at odds with the top party leaders who she accused of manipulating the constitution and blocking Baganda from taking leadership positions in the party.

The National Executive Committee, FDC's top organ, suspended her and ordered her to appear before the disciplinary committee. But she retaliated with threats to wash more dirty linen in the public if the party did not rescind the punishment.

It seems the party is backing off. FDC President Dr. Kizza Besigye reportedly met her and the process of mending fences with the party has begun.
