In what promises to be a historic 14th Advertising Day, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, will be the guest speaker at this year's annual Advertising Lecture.
The lecture is the highpoint of the Advertising Day activities to be hosted by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Lagos Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja.
The Minister of Information and Communication, Mr. John Odey, is expected to be the guest of honour.
The APCON Advertising Day is an annual event at which the advertising profession and its contributions to the development of the Nigerian economy is reviewed and celebrated.
This year's event coincides with the 20th anniversary of APCON which was established by Act number 55 of 1988 as a Federal government agency for the regulation and control of advertising in Nigeria. By virtue of the same Act, advertising became a profession in Nigeria to be practised only by persons who have acquired the prescribed academic qualification and are duly registered as advertising practitioners.
Part of the programmes for the 2008 Advertising Day is the unveiling of the Practice Seal and Stamps which thereafter will become the only acceptable instrument for authenticating creative concepts, strategy proposals and other professional documents prepared by advertising practitioners.
The Advertising Day will also feature the Advertising Standards Award which is instituted to recognize and appreciate consistent compliance with regulatory standards in advertisements as well as the graduation and award of certificates to candidates who have successfully completed the APCON professional examinations. Also newly registered practitioners will be inducted into the profession at the event.
