Uganda: Tough Finale for Drivers in Mombasa

Kibisi, Kenya — After a day of heavy rains in and around the coastal town of Mombasa, Kenya, drivers will have to take a cautious approach into the final leg of the KCB Visa Card Rally.

Awaiting them is 224.8km of an unpredictable and slippery route as drivers seek to end the season with a flourish in the seventh round of the 2008 Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC).

The Ugandan contingent of Emma Katto/Moses Matovu (Subaru N14) and Riyaz Kurji/Sayed Kadri (Subaru N10) will take their rivalry to a new level. "I am ready to defend my title here. The conditions favour no one so we will all have the same problems," Kurji, who is seeking to complete a rare hat-trick of wins in the event told Sunday Monitor.

The cars that survived yesterday's 1.4km Super Special Stage will face nine other competitive sections starting with Sokoke-Maryango, 36km long. Sokoke to Shariani (47.6km) is the longest section while Shariani to Munarani (15.6km) is the shortest but both could be very slippery.

"The fourth, sixth, eighth and tenth sections will be tough but hopefully we will hold out," Matovu noted.
