Liberia: LTA On Corruption Reports

1 November 2008

The management of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has angrily reacted to media reports over claims of financial mismanagement at the institution, despite the team's public scrutiny.

Speaking to reporters recently, the chairman of the Board of Directors, Albert Bropleh, said he challenged his detractors to prove allegation of corruption at the LTA.

He revealed how some former employees continue to spread lies against the institution, adding "Since one A.B. Samukai was dismissed, there have been negative reports in various dailies against the LTA."

Recently there were reports of financial mismanagement at the LTA, but when contacted, the chairman of the Board said, "Do your own investigation as good journalists, and don't be like others who will only hear news and without investigating go public."

He said the LTA is open to any journalist to counter-check rather than to insinuate on information filtering from them.

Meanwhile, sources close to the LTA told reporters that lies and misinformation have engulfed the institution to an extent that will bring discredit to the Bropleh's management.
