Angolan ambassador to the United States of Amrica, Josefina Pitra Diakite, Thursday in Washington, appealed to the oil firms operating in the country to have a major participation in social programmes implemented by the Government.
This is to help the Government fight poverty and improve the populations living.
Josefina Diakite was speaking at a meeting organised by the US Global Business Forum, on the investment environment in Angola and the bilateral relations with the United States of America.
She said on the occasion it was the government's interest to diversify the existing bilateral cooperation with the USA, highlighting the need and importance of the participation of the oil companies that operate in the country in the programmes being implemented by the Government.
The diplomat mentioned as an example the partnership with Chevron, that includes several social projects in the fields of agriculture, education and micro-credit programmes that very much contribute to the development of the country's public sector.
At the meeting, attended by representatives of various US oil companies, including BP, Shell, Exxon Mobil Corporation, Chevron, Aramco Services, Marathon Oil Company and FEDEX Express, the diplomat spoke of the country's potential in natural and energetic l resources and ongoing solar energy projects.
The diplomat also spoke of the results of the legislative election of September 5, and the new government recently appointed by the head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, highlighting the number of women in decision making positions, in line with a plan of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
In their turn, the participants expressed optimism about the high level, growth and stability of the Angolan economy, having pledged to set up partnerships, particularly in the sectors of trade, fisheries and renewable sources of energy.
The Global Business Forum organises 15 similar events every year, attended by representatives of governments, diplomats and business people for an exchange of information leading to investments and increment of the assistance provided by the USA in various sectors to several countries.
