Kano — Barely one week after over N130 million property was lost to the fire that gutted Singer Market, Kano last Thursday, another popular market which is predominantly occupied by Igbo and Yoruba traders in Sabon-Gari area was razed by fire while 500 shops with goods worth over N500 million were lost to the inferno.
Governor Ibrahim Shekarau who visited the scene of the incident yesterday ordered a probe to unravel the cause of the fire incident.
Only last week, a mysterious fire gutted no fewer than 28 shops in some parts of the popular Kwanar Singer market and burnt property worth 30 million naira.
According to a source who preferred anonymity, the fire started in the early hours of Sunday. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained and the most part of the market that was affected are the side where highly chemical , shoe and tobacco are being sold .
He said that what worsened the situation more was that though the fire service came around early to put the fire off, there was no easy access to where the fire started.
Our correspondent in Kano who visited the scene of the fire incident learnt that the fire had done more damages before men of the fire service could gain access into the market and it was not an easy task for them to put the fire off.
While speaking with THISDAY at the scene of the fire, Governor Shekarau's Special Adviser on Inter-community Relations, Alhaji Mikhail Adebayo called on the affected victims to regard the incident as an act of Allah, praying Allah to give them the courage to bear the huge loss.
