Kampala — Commonwealth steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru is set to compete in the MTN Kampala International marathon due November 23.
Inzikuru has registered for the 10km open race, joining a host of elite runners to grace the marathon.
"It will be exciting seeing Inzikuru back in competition. She looks in shape and should spice up the event," Ronnie Kasirye, one of the marathon coordinators said.
Inzikuru, who gave birth last December, has not competed since July when she featured in the National Championships at Namboole. Still struggling with weight and unfitness, Inzikuru was overlapped and finished last in the women's 5,000m.
The Arua gazelle has though always promised to make a strong comeback to the competitive scene. Her biggest undoing has been securing enough funds to sustain her during training, which she has in most cases done in Iten, Kenya. A gold medalist at the 2005 World Championships, Inzikuru has not competed in an international race since March 2006 when she dropped out of the World Cross-country Championships in Momnasa, Kenya.
She was sidelined by sinuses before getting pregnant. The MTN marathon will give Inzikuru an opportunity to build up for next year's World Cross-country Championships in Jordan. Registration for the marathon ends on Friday.
