Sierra Leone: Football: SLFA Chairman Cites Administrative Lapses

Chairman of the newly-constituted Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Africell premier league board Friday identified some administrative problems hindering the smooth running of the game.

Alpha Timbo made the assertion shortly after he was appointed head of the board which is the first of its kind in the history of Sierra Leone football.

He said the poor performance by the national team could be linked to the lack of effective national competition and the little attention given to coaches in the country.

Timbo however stated that with the expected support from football stakeholders including the media and the SLFA, the upcoming national league would be different.

"I thank the SLFA, and football stakeholders for the confidence they had imposed in us. I am appealing for uninterested support from the media," he said.

SLFA secretary general, Alimu Bah said the establishment of the board which would focus primarily on the premier league is a mark of development for football in the country.

"This is the first time in the history that Sierra Leone football will get a premier league board. This is a great stride in the promotion of football in the country," he said.

SLFA vice president, Joseph Kelfala said the constitution of the board was injected during the 2008 SLFA congress.

Kelfala noted that with the formation of the board, the association can now focus on other areas of policy, development and structural changes such as youth development, instructional course for referees, coaches and administrators.

Aside Timbo, members of the board include Durosimi Thomas, Aisha Tejan Cole, Percival Deigh, Ibrahim Bah, Issac Massaquoi and Sadiu Mansaray.
