Angola: Governador Mentions Energy, Research As Priorities

Huambo — The sectors of energy and scientific research were mentioned Saturday by the governor of central Huambo province, Albino Malungo, as some of the priorities in the implementation of development programmes in the region.

Speaking at the end of his first-infield work programme since appointed provincial governor, Albino Malungo mentioned the sector of energy as the main step towards the development of the industrial sector, generation of jobs and increment to economic revenue.

Accompanied by members of his staff and representatives of the Japanese diplomatic mission, that is on a cooperation survey in the region, the governor pledged serious work towards the stabilisation of the energy sector in the region.

"Let us urgently combine effort to improve the situation of energy in the province, so I have brought good friends, Japanese, who have the intention of helping us with the construction of a mini-dam," he said.

The governor also spoke of the need for a major involvement of the sector of scientific research in the implementation of governing programmes.

Albino Malungo visited the Kuando Dam, the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences, the veterinary hospital, library, laboratory and demining department.

On Friday, the mission of the Japanese embassy accredited to Angola met with the provincial Government, to identify areas for possible cooperation.

The Japanese mission travelled to Huambo province by road, accompanied by the governor. This has enabled them a clearer view of part of the reality of the region that has a huge farming potential.
