Nairobi — A grand reception for a team that has qualified for the third Rugby World Cup Sevens would be in order when the national seven-a-side team returns home Monday at 2.40pm from Tunis, Tunisia.
Kenya defeated Zimbabwe 26-14 in the final to grab one of the places available for the next Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai.
Zimbabwe and Tunisia also qualified. The rugby team qualified for their third straight RWC Sevens.
In 2001, Kenya played in the RWC Sevens in Mar del Plata, Argentina before appearing in the second tournament in 2005 in Hong Kong.
Only family friends and ardent rugby fans are likely to be at the airport to welcome back the team which is perhaps the best in the country at the moment.
Richard Omwela, the KRFU chairman who traveled to Tunisia, said Kenya's qualification was already assured.
"We had to prequalify because of rules which were made in 2005 where all the teams which reached the quarter-finals automatically qualified. I believe current form should have been used," Omwela said.
